CWES Science Advisory Group (SAG) MembersThe CWES Science Advisory Group (SAG) is comprised of DRI faculty from all three divisions and from Las Vegas and Reno. This includes faculty involved in atmospheric sciences, hydrologic modeling, environmental engineering, microbiology, paleoecology, limnology and watershed management. The CWES group also includes two non-DRI members. Derek Kauneckis, from the UNR Political Science Department, has a strong background in the study and application of how science is used to inform public policy decisions. This knowledge is especially important in the Lake Tahoe and Walker Lake watersheds, focus areas for CWES research. Joe Guild, a prominent Nevada lawyer and native Nevada rancher, is co-founder and administrator of the Clark J. Guild, Jr. endowment for Watershed Sciences. His participation is critical in providing community input on the mission of CWES and its objectives. One of the most important functions of the CWES SAG is to provide input on the directions that we should pursue for future interdisciplinary research. In this respect the SAG develops both short and long-term research strategies for the Center. The DRI Tahoe Research Program, for example, has been developed with on-going CWES SAG guidance. The CWES SAG has been an integral part of making CWES a successful Center at DRI.
